How to Search
Enter your location
On the homepage, type your postal code, street address or name of your community into the box that says “Enter Location”. Suggestions will appear as you type. You can also click the arrow in the grey box to the left of the words “Enter Location” and your location will be automatically entered.
How do you want to search?
You have two options:
- Keyword Search
Type in what you are looking for. You can enter a type of service (for example, food banks or youth employment), an organization or a program name (such as Red Cross), or any keyword or short phrase. Suggestions will appear as you type. Press “Enter” or click the “Search” button to continue. - Topic Search
Choose from the type of service you are looking for, and a list of topics will appear. Click on the name of the topic to start a search or click the “Return to Topics” link to return to the previous screen.
Customize your search (Optional)
Click on “Search Options” to set the size of your search area and how you would like the results sorted.
- Best Match
Sorts results based on a collection of factors (e.g. keyword/phrase matches, distance). Best Match doesn’t always put the closest results first. - Distance
Sorts results only by distance from your search location to the search result’s location. - Alphabetical
Sorts results alphabetically by the name of the organization.
Searching by Language
You can narrow down the results of your search by choosing to only see services that can be provided in a certain language. The Language filter is helpful but you should always double check that there is someone at that location who does, in fact, speak the language you are hoping to use. Also, most services are available in English only so this filter may only bring back a few results so don’t forget to remove the Language filter if you aren’t getting enough search results.
Getting Results
Once you’ve entered in your location and topic and have hit the “Search” button, you have two options for seeing the results of your search. At any time, you can switch between them using the “List” and “Map” buttons at the top of the page. Click the “New Search” button to start over.
Want to see more? Click the “Load More” button at the bottom of the page.
- List view
If you want to see information about a listing, click on the organization link. This will display brief details about the service you’re interested in. To see more, click the “Service Details” button.
- Map view
In map view, you can see the results of your search displayed on a map. Drag the map with your mouse or finger to look around. You can zoom in and out using the + and – buttons. To learn about a service, click the red place marker, a box will pop up, then click the organization name (in red), and a page with all their information will open.
Suggest an Update
If you find a listing that is showing incorrect information, you can suggest an update to us. At the bottom of each service listing, you can click on “Suggest Update”. (You can see this after you click the “Service Details” button.) This will bring up a form where you can enter the corrections.
